Singapore and Odisha Sign MoUs to Promote Green Corridors, Industrial Growth, and Skill Development

Bhubaneswar: The state government of Odisha has inked eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Singapore in a major step to improve industrial prospects, skill development, and sustainable urban initiatives. Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi were present as the agreements were formally signed.

Developing Bilateral Partnerships for Development 

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister for Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan greeted Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the airport upon his arrival in Bhubaneswar for a two-day visit. His visit highlights Odisha’s commitment to fostering global partnerships for economic progress and technological advancements. 

During his visit, President Shanmugaratnam explored Odisha’s World Skill Centre, where he witnessed advanced facilities like the Vertical Transport Lab and Travelator Lab. These innovations reflect Odisha’s dedication to modernizing skill training and equipping students with industry-ready expertise. Additionally, the Singaporean leader engaged with students, talking about their goals and Odisha's vision for skill-driven jobs. 

The MoUs Cover a Variety of Sectors 

An all-encompassing approach to growth is shown in the eight Memorandums of Understanding that Odisha and Singapore have inked, which span a variety of industries. Among the agreements are: 
  1. Advanced Skill Development Centres: Creating top-notch training facilities to improve worker knowledge and vocational education. 
  2. Semiconductor Industry Collaboration: Establishing research possibilities and training initiatives in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. 
  3. Renewable Energy Innovation: Collaborative research projects for sustainable energy solutions and green hydrogen generation. 
  4. Green Hydrogen Corridors: creating environmentally friendly infrastructure to promote hydrogen-powered power and lessen carbon emissions. 
  5. Industrial and Smart Parks: Establishing technologically advanced industrial parks to increase production capacity and draw in international investment. 
  6. New Smart City in Bhubaneswar: Developing a contemporary urban centre with advanced digital governance, smart mobility systems, and infrastructure. 
  7. Petrochemical Investment: Encouraging global collaborations to fortify the downstream chemical and petroleum sectors. 
  8. Growth of Financial Technology (FinTech): Using digital solutions to improve the financial technology and economic environment in Odisha. 

The Dedication of Odisha To A Future-Ready Economy 

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Ahuja showcased Odisha's enormous economic potential during the event, emphasising important industries including semiconductor technology, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and urban infrastructure. He highlighted how the state is taking the initiative to support cutting-edge industries, provide job opportunities, and promote economic change. 
To complete these agreements, a number of prestigious universities collaborated with top Singaporean organisations, including IIT Bhubaneswar, IDCO, BIDA, EPICOL, and the Departments of IT, Education, Science, and Technology in Odisha.
