Republic Day 2025: Odisha Police and Fire Service Personnel Honored with Gallantry and Service Medals

Bhubaneswar, January 25, 2025 – As the nation gears up to celebrate the 76th Republic Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced gallantry and service awards for distinguished personnel across India. Odisha takes pride as six of its brave police officers have been selected for prestigious gallantry awards, while two officers will receive the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for their meritorious service.

Six Odisha Police Officers to Receive Gallantry Medals 

The six police personnel from Odisha, recognized for their extraordinary courage and selfless service, will be honored at the Republic Day celebrations. The awardees include: 
  1. Sub-Inspector Girish Chandra Majhi 
  2. Havildar Pabitra Kumar Sahu 
  3. Havildar Umesh Munda 
  4. Constable Paratambar Satnami 
  5. Constable Kavichandra Raut 
  6. Constable Sushant Kumar Sagar 
These officers have demonstrated exceptional bravery in the line of duty, ensuring the safety of citizens and maintaining law and order under challenging circumstances.

President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service 

Two police personnel from Odisha will be conferred with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) for their long-standing dedication and contribution to policing: 
  1. Inspector Saroj Kumar Samal 
  2. Constable Satyabadi Mallik 
Their relentless efforts in crime prevention, investigation, and law enforcement have set benchmarks for excellence in police service. 

11 Odisha Police Personnel to Receive Police Medal for Meritorious Service 

In recognition of their consistent dedication to duty and remarkable service, 11 police officers from Odisha have been selected for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS). The awardees include: 
  1. Constable Paritosh Mandal 
  2. Sub-Inspector Sheikh Abdul Fayyaz 
  3. Constable Mohammad Tosif Rabani 
  4. ASI Sarat Chandra Behera 
  5. Constable Trilochan Budhia 
  6. Constable Tej Bahadur Gurung 
  7. Havildar Atul Kumar Bishwal 
  8. Constable Jayanti Suna 
  9. Constable Manoj Kumar Jena 
  10. Constable Deb Prasad Mohanty 
  11. Constable Naresh Kumar Chaudhary 
Their commitment to public service, community safety, and maintaining law and order has earned them this prestigious recognition. 

Fire Services, Home Guards, and Jail Staff Honored 

Apart from police officers, the Odisha Fire Service Department, Home Guards, Civil Defence, and Jail Administration have also been acknowledged for their unwavering service: 
  • Five fire service personnel will be awarded the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service. 
  • Three home guard and civil defence personnel will receive service medals. 
  • Two jail officers will be conferred with the Correctional Service Medal for Distinguished Service for their significant contributions to prison administration and inmate rehabilitation. 

Nationwide Recognition: Over 900 Police Officers Honored 

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced awards for 942 police officers across India, recognizing bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious contributions: 
  • 95 officers will receive the Gallantry Medal, including 78 from police forces and 17 from the fire service. 
  • 101 personnel will receive the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, including 85 from police services, 5 from fire services, 7 from home guards and civil defence, and 4 from prison services. 
  • 746 officers will be awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, with 634 from police forces, 37 from fire services, 39 from home guards and civil defence, and 36 from prison services.
