PM Modi Highlights India’s Skilled Talent Potential at 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underscored India’s swift progress in the 21st century and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to meeting the global demand for skilled talent. Speaking at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention in Bhubaneswar, he acknowledged the contributions made by the Indian diaspora to India's international prominence and highlighted the government's commitment to helping them in times of need.

India's Youth Power and the Need for Talent Worldwide 

During his speech, Prime Minister Modi emphasised India's distinct status as a country with one of the world's youngest and most highly skilled populations. He said, 
“21st century India is progressing at an incredible speed and scale. For decades to come, India will remain the hub of the world’s most talented and youthful workforce. We are ready to fulfill the global demand for skilled professionals.” 
He described India as a crucial driver of global talent, asserting the country’s readiness to cater to the evolving needs of the international workforce. 

Appreciation of the Diaspora's Contribution 

PM Modi acknowledged the Indian diaspora's efforts to improve India's reputation abroad and conveyed his sincere appreciation for their steadfast support. 
“I feel immense pride when I meet you all. You have served as ambassadors for India, bringing our culture and ideals with you," he said. He further added, “In the last 10 years, world leaders have often spoken about the positive impact of the Indian diaspora in their countries. This is a testament to the social values and principles you uphold.” 
PM Modi assured the diaspora of the government’s continued commitment to their welfare, saying, “Your safety and well-being are our top priorities. We believe it is our responsibility to help you through difficult times, no matter where you are. 

Odisha Highlights Its Traditions 

In his speech, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi discussed the state's rich cultural legacy. He referred to Odisha as a "hub of diverse traditions," highlighting the state's classical dance style, Odissi, and the exquisite Pattachitra paintings' appeal on a global scale. 
“The world-famous handicraft of Sambalpur are among Odisha’s most riched traditions,” Majhi said. He also highlighted the state’s natural beauty, calling it a treasure trove of heritage and ecological wonders. 

Grand Welcome for PM Modi 

PM Modi was received with a ceremonial welcome at the Bhubaneswar airport by Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Prime Minister inaugurated the three-day convention, organised in collaboration with the Odisha state government. 

PBD 2025: A Platform to Engage with the Indian Diaspora 

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is the Indian government’s flagship event to connect with the diaspora and foster meaningful interactions. This year’s theme, “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” underscores the crucial role of Indians abroad in driving India’s development vision. 
More than 50 countries were represented at the convention, with thousands of diaspora members actively participating in discussions and events aimed at strengthening India’s global ties. 

Jaishankar Applauds Diaspora's Contribution to India's Development 

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised the diaspora as a "living bridge" that connects India to the rest of the globe on the eve of the convention. He said that the contributions of India's diaspora are closely linked to the country's ascent to prominence in the world. They are essential to furthering India's globalisation and improving its reputation abroad.
