PM Modi and President Murmu Lament the Deaths in the Tirupati Stampede Disaster

Tirupati: On Wednesday, a devastating stampede near the Vishnu Nivasam neighbourhood of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, left over 40 pilgrims wounded and six people dead. At the holy Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple, the event happened during the offline darshan token distribution for the Vaikunta Dwara Darshan, which was set for January 10–19.

President and PM Express Grief 

President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “Distressed to know that a stampede in Tirupati led to the loss of many lives. I wish for the injured people's quick recovery and offer my sincere condolences to the families of the deceased." 
In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sympathies and promised the impacted families that the government will be there for them no matter what.I'm really sorry about the deaths in the Tirupati stampede. The state authorities are working tirelessly to assist the injured and manage the situation," he remarked in a statement. 

Chandrababu Naidu Visits Families 

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow over the incident and visited the families of the deceased on Thursday morning. In order to avoid similar occurrences in the future, he also gave authorities instructions to guarantee smooth token distribution and crowd control.

Thousands of devotees congregated around the Vishnu Nivasam complex to obtain tokens, which led to the rush. Chaos and congestion resulted from the huge demand to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams' (TTD) offline darshan token distribution process. Heavy crowds at many token distribution centres reportedly made matters worse and led to the tragic stampede, according to officials. 

TTD Declares Prompt Actions 

The TTD has apologised for the event in an official statement. Nine token distribution facilities have been established across Tirupati to expedite the procedure and prevent more accidents. Devotees have been urged by authorities to cooperate and prevent congestion.

A major religious occasion, the Vaikunta Dwara Darshan enables followers to enter the hallowed Vaikunta Dwaram and obtain Lord Venkateswara's blessings. It is anticipated to draw lakhs of devotees from all around the nation over its January 10–19 schedule.

Additional crowd control measures are being put in place by the authorities, such as demarcated lines, controlled token distribution, and heightened police presence. To handle any unanticipated situations, emergency services and medical teams have been positioned close to distribution facilities.

The incident has drawn criticism for poor crowd control at events of this magnitude. There have been a lot of calls on social media for increased security at religious events. 
The safety of devotees attending the next Vaikunta Dwara Darshan is still the major priority while the temple town of Tirupati grieves this terrible loss.
