Bhubaneswar: The Government of India announced the prestigious Padma Awards on Saturday evening, recognising 139 eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions in various fields, including arts, literature, social service, medicine, and sports. Among the recipients, four distinguished personalities from Odisha have been conferred with the Padma Shri for their remarkable achievements.
Pratibha Satpathy: A Literary Luminary
A celebrated poet and writer, Pratibha Satpathy is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award and a leading figure in Odia literature. Born on November 27, 1945, she published her first poetry collection, Aama Kavita, in 1962.
Over the years, her poetic brilliance has led to multiple publications, many of which have been translated into Hindi and English. Her works have earned her numerous regional and national literary accolades, reinforcing her legacy in Indian literature.
Durga Charan Ranbir: A Maestro of Odissi Dance
A revered Odissi dance guru, Durga Charan Ranbir has dedicated over two decades to training and promoting this classical dance form. A disciple of the legendary Guru Deba Prasad Das, he has imparted training in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Delhi, and even abroad in the United States.
His institute in Bhubaneswar continues to produce skilled Odissi dancers, many of whom receive scholarships from India’s Ministry of Culture. His tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the global recognition of Odissi.
Adwaita Charan Gadanayak: The Master of Sculpture
Renowned for his excellence in sculpture, Adwaita Charan Gadanayak hails from Neulapoi village in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. A graduate of B.K. College of Arts & Crafts, Bhubaneswar, and a postgraduate from the College of Art, Delhi, he has left an indelible mark in the world of fine arts.

An eminent neurosurgeon, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mahapatra has made invaluable contributions to Indian medicine. Born on December 29, 1952, in Brahmagiri, Puri, he pursued his MBBS from MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, in 1975.
His long association with AIIMS Delhi (1983–2017) saw him take on critical roles, contributing significantly to India’s healthcare system. Known for his simple lifestyle and dedication to medical education, Dr. Mahapatra remains a revered name in the field of neurosurgery.
