National Girl Child Day 2025: PM Modi Reiterates Commitment to Empowering Girls Across Sectors

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government's steadfast dedication to empowering girls and guaranteeing them equal opportunity in all areas of life on the occasion of National Girl Child Day 2025. The Prime Minister highlighted the value of healthcare, education, technology, and skills in elevating girls and eradicating gender discrimination on social networking site X.

PM Modi Applauds Girls' Success in a Range of Fields 

PM Modi took delight in the accomplishments of females in a variety of fields in his post. He stated, 
"Today, on National Girl Child Day, we reiterate our commitment to keep empowering the girl child and ensure a wide range of opportunities for her. India is proud of the accomplishments of the girl child across all fields. Their feats continue to inspire us all." 
The prime minister also emphasised the government's ongoing initiatives to create an atmosphere free from prejudice where girls may flourish.

Government Programs for the Empowerment of Girls 

The Indian government has started a number of programs over the years to promote the growth and well-being of girls. Some key programs include: 
  • Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP): Launched in 2015, this flagship scheme aims to improve the child sex ratio and promote education among girls. 
  • Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: A savings scheme encouraging financial security for girls’ education and future needs. 
  • Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav: An initiative to re-enroll teenage females who are not enrolled in school. 
  • Poshan Abhiyan: aimed at enhancing the nutritional status of young girls, nursing mothers, and pregnant women. 
Promoting female involvement in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) sectors is known as STEM education for girls.

Making Sure Girls Are Not Discriminated Against

"Our government has prioritised areas that have helped empower girls, such as healthcare, education, technology, and skills. (We are equally resolute in ensuring no discrimination happens against the girl child." 

The Significance of National Girl Child Day 

Observed annually on January 24, National Girl Child Day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The purpose of the day is to increase public awareness of gender equality, the rights of girls, and the value of girls' health and education.
