Forest Martyr Chandramani Nayak Remembered: A Commitment to Environmental Protection

Nayagarh: The ancient Trinath Temple in the Nayagarh district served as the venue for the 21st Smriti Charan Sabha, which honoured the memory of Forest Martyr Chandramani Nayak. Secretary Kishore Chandra Dalabehera and Convener Bikram Nayak oversaw the ceremony, which was organised by the Jungle Suraksha Mahasangh, a trailblazing group devoted to forest conservation. Mahasangh President Sarat Chandra Nayak presided over the occasion.

Environmentalists, social workers, and Mahasangh officials gathered and vowed to continue the environmental preservation effort started by Chandramani Nayak and Shramik Yogi, the founder of the Mahasangh. 

Honouring the Pioneering Leader 

Chandramani Nayak received passionate tributes from social activists Kamakhya Prasad Das, Damodar Sahu, and Bhagaban Sahu, as well as well-known figures like Anadi Charan Mohanty, Sukanta Chandra Chaudhury, Radhakant Das, and Paramananda Swain. Alekh Nayak, senior leaders Akrura Behera, and former Mahasangh President Purna Chandra Mahapatra talked about Nayak's sacrifices and services to forest conservation. 
Through raising awareness throughout Odisha and even outside of India, Chandramani Nayak's efforts were crucial in turning Nayagarh into a centre for forest conservation. The event honoured his life and dedication while highlighting the necessity of group efforts to save forests, biodiversity, and the environment. 

Reiterating the Goal 

The Mahasangh reaffirmed its dedication to the cause, highlighting community-based efforts to engage communities in environmental and forest conservation. Members promised to broaden the movement beyond district lines, guaranteeing the protection of forests and the battle against climate change, with a renewed emphasis on involving the younger generation. 

Important Resolutions Accepted 

  • Village-Level Campaigns: In order to encourage forest protection, members decided to step up awareness campaigns in rural regions. 
  • Promoting the younger generation's active participation in environmental campaigns is known as youth participation. 
  • Sustainable Development Goals: Reaching long-term environmental sustainability via cooperation with like-minded organisations.

A solemn pledge to protect forests, fight climate change, and guarantee a sustainable future marked the end of the Smriti Charan Sabha. Drawing inspiration from the unwavering efforts of environmental warriors like Chandramani Nayak, members underlined the need for the struggle for forest protection to continue with vigour. 
The incident acted as a stark reminder of how essential it is for everyone to take responsibility for safeguarding the environment. The message of forest protection is spreading widely as Nayagarh sets an example, encouraging countless people to become real "friends of nature." 
The legacy of Chandramani Nayak will continue to direct the course towards a better, greener world.
