Odisha Govt Plans Massive Infrastructure Overhaul in Bhubaneswar: Ring Roads, Flyovers, and ROBs to Ease Traffic

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi presided over a high-level meeting where the overall strategy was addressed. Development Commissioner-Cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo were among the important participants in the talks. Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan gave presentations on their ministries' plans for improving the infrastructure of the capital city.

Important Infrastructure Features

1. Ring roads and new highways:

  • It is anticipated that a new road connecting Jaydev Vihar and Nandankanan would greatly cut down on travel time.
  • To improve connectivity in the northern part of the city, a ring road project is being planned that would connect Patia Railway Station to NH-16 via the Daya West Canal.
  • Construction of the Sundarpada-Jatani Road, a vital thoroughfare on the city's periphery.
  • The western suburbs will see improved traffic flow thanks to a new route that will connect Ekamra Kanan to the Institute of Mathematics on Patapalli-Trishulia route.

2. ROBs and flyovers:

  • There are plans to build a flyover that will connect the busy area of Kalpana Square, Museum, and Ravi Talkies.
  • The development of a new ROB between Sishu Bhawan Chhak and Mausi Maa Chhak would alleviate traffic jams brought on by frequent train crossings.

3. Peripheral Connectivity via Outer Ring Road:

  • It is anticipated that the Tamando-Chandaka-Baran-Dhauli-Tamando Ring Road would ring the city, acting as a heavy vehicle bypass and easing traffic inside the city boundaries.

Integrated Growth for the Greater Bhubaneswar Area

Plans to create the Greater Bhubaneswar Development Plan and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri Economic Region were emphasised by Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra. By integrating urban development throughout the tri-city area, these efforts hope to promote regional connection and economic prosperity.
The economic region proposal envisions Bhubaneswar as a hub for commerce and industry, with enhanced transport links boosting trade and tourism in the state.
According to the economic region concept, Bhubaneswar would serve as a commercial and industrial centre, and improved transit will increase the state's trade and tourism.

Execution Under Expert Guidance for Sustainable Solutions

CM Mohan Majhi stressed the importance of sustainable urban infrastructure at the meeting and gave authorities instructions to make sure the suggested projects were completed on schedule. "These developments will contribute to the city's economic and social growth in addition to alleviating traffic congestion," he said.
Both inhabitants and urban planners have expressed their admiration for the plan, arguing that its emphasis on holistic development would improve Bhubaneswar's standing as a contemporary and livable city.

Budget and Timeline for Implementation

Although the government has not yet released the specifics of the budget, authorities promised that money will come from central programs, corporate partnerships, and state appropriations. It is anticipated that the implementation would be gradual, with high-traffic areas receiving precedence.
Bhubaneswar is positioned to become a model city with its ambitious plan, exhibiting sustainable urban expansion and effective infrastructure. Residents should anticipate a future with better connectivity and fewer traffic problems as the capital prepares for this change.
