BJP Slams Congress and INDIA Alliance: Alleges Disrespect Towards Constitution and Institutions

New Delhi: Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, attacked the Congress and the INDIA alliance harshly on Wednesday, saying they were disrespecting important democratic institutions and undermining constitutional principles. The criticism follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that the opposition filed in the Supreme Court, contesting the legitimacy of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The historic movement of a lack of trust against Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar was also condemned by Patra.
BJP Slams Congress and INDIA Alliance: Alleges Disrespect Towards Constitution and Institutions

The BJP Responds to Claims and Maintains the Integrity of the EVM

Sambit Patra strongly defended the integrity of the EVMs and the ECI in a statement to the media. He highlighted that the results were "100% accurate and perfect," as the ECI recently verified that the vote count was accurate in 288 Legislative Assemblies and 1,440 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units.
"The EVMs are perfect in Jharkhand and Telangana where they have won, but they suddenly grow in doubt when they lose elections," Patra said, taking a jab at the Congress. This double standard shows their desperation.”
Patra also referred to a similar PIL filed earlier by evangelist KA Paul, which was dismissed by the Supreme Court as baseless.
"The Court had clearly stated that these fits over EVMs lack depth,” he added.
Furthermore, he recalled that the Congress had been invited to participate in an EVM hackathon organized by the ECI to address doubts, but they declined. “If they had genuine concerns, why did they not engage in a platform for transparency?” Patra questioned.

Historic No-Confidence Motion Sparks BJP Outrage

The BJP spokesperson criticized the Opposition’s notice seeking the removal of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling it a “historic first.” Patra accused the Congress of attacking Dhankhar’s integrity as well as his background as a “farmer’s son and a Jat.”
“This flow is not just against the Vice President; it is a flow against democracy itself. By attacking the constitutional position of the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Congress and its supporters have descended to unprecedented levels, Patra said.
He further said that the Gandhi-Nehru family planned the action as a distraction to divert attention from their purported ties to billionaire financier George Soros.

Congress Is Charged with Undermining Institutional Trust

The INDIA alliance's activities have been seen by the BJP as a component of a broader effort to undermine confidence in India's democratic institutions. Patra noted that the opposition persisted in making unfounded claims about the elections in Haryana and Maharashtra even after the BJP released CCTV video from polling places for transparency.
"The Congress party depends on fostering disorder and chaos," he remarked, emphasizing that their actions demonstrate a clear lack of respect for constitutional bodies like the Rajya Sabha Chairman and the Election Commission of India.

Encouragement of Positive Opposition

Patra concluded by advising the opposition to put more effort into positive politics as opposed to eroding public confidence in democracy. He underlined that persistent assaults on constitutional procedures and institutions are harmful to the advancement of the country.
"The Indian populace is observing. They are aware of who is attempting to undermine the nation's progress and who is fighting to advance it," Patra stated.
With the 2024 general elections approaching as a background to this intensifying political struggle, the BJP's scathing reaction highlights the continuous dispute between the ruling party and the opposition.
