The Cabinet decision, led by former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, intends to support farmers by providing essential resources for cow rearing and genetic improvement of livestock. The plan is expected to benefit rural communities by promoting traditional livelihoods, while also supporting the state's agricultural economy.

Key Focus on Livestock Development

The newly approved fund allocation of Rs 342 crore will be directed toward cow protection measures, ensuring better animal healthcare and infrastructure improvements to support cattle farmers. The funds will be utilized for a range of initiatives, including:
  • Establishing and improving cow shelters and breeding centers.
  • Enhancing veterinary healthcare services.
  • Implementing genetic improvement programs to boost cattle productivity.

Rs 696 Crore Allocation for Modernization of Fisheries Infrastructure

In addition to the livestock development program, the Odisha government has committed Rs 696 crore for the modernization of fishing ports and jetties across the state. This fund aims to support the state’s extensive fishing community by upgrading critical infrastructure, enhancing safety measures, and promoting efficient fishery operations. The project is expected to be completed within three years, a timeline that Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra emphasized in his statement, reflecting the government’s dedication to supporting the state’s fishing industry.

Novel Approach to Irrigation and Water Resource Development

Recognizing the importance of water resources for agriculture, the state government has also announced an innovative approach for irrigation and water conservation. This strategy aims to improve water management systems, making agricultural water supply more resilient against seasonal fluctuations. The water resource development initiative is part of the broader goal to ensure sustainable agriculture and to support farmers with adequate irrigation solutions.

Chief Minister’s Fishermen Welfare Scheme: Rs 2,942 Crore Allocated

In another noteworthy step, the Odisha government has sanctioned a budget of Rs 2,942 crore under the Chief Minister’s Fishermen Welfare Scheme. This scheme is designed to improve the livelihoods of the fishing community through welfare programs, healthcare facilities, and skill development opportunities. It will also provide financial support to fishing families to improve their income stability and resilience.
These newly sanctioned programs reflect Odisha's proactive stance on rural development, animal welfare, and community support. Through these initiatives, the state government aims to create a positive impact on both the livestock and fishing industries, ultimately contributing to Odisha’s economic growth and sustainability.
