Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to redefine the train journey experience with the Khordha-Bolangir railway line, a massive project nearing completion and brimming with scenic wonders. As work progresses on the seven tunnels along this route, the anticipation among travelers and locals alike grows. Four of these remarkable tunnels are located in the Boudh district, including Odisha’s longest railway tunnel, a spectacular 4.185-kilometer engineering marvel. This railway line will soon offer an adventurous passage, taking passengers on an unforgettable ride through the heart of the state’s natural beauty. 

A Unique Route through Boudh’s Breathtaking Terrain 

Travelers on the Khordha-Bolangir railway line will soon pass from Dasapalla in Nayagarh to Boudh, navigating Odisha's lush landscapes. This stretch of track, running for 310 kilometers in total, reserves a significant 110 kilometers for the Boudh district alone. With stunning scenery, four tunnels, and multiple strategic railway stations, Boudh promises to become a coveted destination for railway enthusiasts and sightseers. 
The railway line's tunnels are positioned to enhance the journey, combining modern engineering with natural marvels. Tunnel No. 4 in Adanigarh is the crown jewel at a remarkable length of 4.185 kilometers. Passengers will traverse this longest tunnel, accompanied by shorter yet equally captivating tunnels: Tunnel No. 5, extending 317 meters, and Tunnel No. 6, stretching 313 meters. Both ends of these two tunnels have been opened, with final touches underway, as confirmed by East Coast Railway’s CEO, AG Srinivas. 

Progress Update: Rapid Development and Final Stages of Completion 

According to AG Srinivas, work on all seven tunnels is progressing swiftly. The last, Tunnel No. 7, measuring nearly 1.975 kilometers, is also in its final stages, underscoring the dedication of the East Coast Railway and construction teams. With their expert oversight, the project is poised for an on-time completion, promising that Odisha’s longest tunnel will soon open for public transit. 
The District Railway Manager (DRM) of Sambalpur, Tusharkant Pandey, provided an update on operational plans, noting that once technical and financial milestones are met, administrative decisions will dictate the schedule, route, and other logistics for passenger trains on this line. 

Excitement Builds among Boudh Residents 

As trial runs take place, locals eagerly await the day the Khordha-Bolangir line is fully operational. Stations at Purunapani, Jharmunda, and Sarasara have already seen trains during these initial runs, overseen by the safety commissioner, who inspected all safety protocols to ensure a smooth journey for future passengers. With these successful trials, excitement is building in Boudh as the community anticipates a convenient new link to destinations like Puri. 
Residents, including Niranjan Bag and Kumar Naik, are hopeful for a soon-to-be seamless connection to major cities. “We are waiting eagerly to visit Puri with ease. This railway line will change our lives,” Bag shared enthusiastically.
