Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited political drama, Emergency, will hit theatres on January 17, 2025, after clearing censor board hurdles and overcoming controversies. The film reshaped Indian democracy and offers a deep dive into the dramatic events of the 1970s Emergency period.

Censor Board Clears the Film After Recommended Changes 

Originally set to release on September 6, 2024, Emergency encountered postponements following objections raised by Sikh groups. Critics alleged that the film portrayed the Sikh community negatively and raised concerns over references to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a “saint.” 
Responding to the complaints, the censor board reviewed the film and recommended 13 edits. The filmmakers removed certain scenes and revised some dialogues to comply with the board's suggestions. After implementing these changes, the film received a U/A certificate, clearing it for theatrical release.
