Bhubaneswar: In a proud moment for Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi felicitated two talented students, Amaresh Kumar Sahu and Gedela Akhil, for their exemplary performance at the prestigious WorldSkills Competition 2024 held in Lyon, France. The event took place at the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, where both achievers were recognized for bringing laurels to the state and the country.

Amaresh Kumar Sahu's Bronze in Renewable Energy 

Amaresh Kumar Sahu, hailing from Deogarh district, showcased his expertise in the growing field of Renewable Energy and earned the bronze medal. His remarkable achievement in this skill category is a testament to his technical prowess and innovative approach to renewable energy solutions. His accomplishment shines a light on Odisha’s potential to lead the nation in sustainable development and green technology. Amaresh's dedication and hard work were rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh from the state government, recognizing his commitment to creating a sustainable future.

Gedela Akhil's Excellence in Water Technology 

Gedela Akhil, from Gajapati district, made his mark in the WorldSkills Competition by earning the Medallion for Excellence in Water Technology. This recognition highlights Akhil’s precision and technical skill in one of the most critical sectors, emphasizing the importance of clean water and innovative water management solutions. For his outstanding performance, the Chief Minister awarded him a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. Akhil’s success not only brings pride to Odisha but also underlines the importance of skilled professionals in addressing global water challenges.

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his immense pride in the students' achievements. He emphasized the growing global recognition of Odisha's youth for their skills and talents, adding that these victories are just the beginning. The Chief Minister reiterated that the state government is committed to fostering skill development, ensuring that the young generation becomes a driving force in the state's progress.

"Our goal is to make Odisha a developed state by 2036, and we firmly believe that our talented youth are the key to achieving this vision. The skills and abilities of our young generation are the foundation of our integrity, and they will propel Odisha forward on the global stage," said Majhi during his address. 

The WorldSkills Competition, often dubbed the 'Olympics of Skills,' is a biennial event where participants from around the world demonstrate their mastery in various skill domains. This year’s competition, held from September 10 to 15, saw the participation of over 60 skilled professionals from India, with 15 participants representing Odisha. 

Odisha's Commitment to Skill Development 

The state government has been proactive in creating an environment that nurtures technical education and skill development. Odisha’s focus on upskilling its youth has been reflected in the increased budget allocations and dedicated programs aimed at honing the abilities of students across various fields. Chief Minister Majhi revealed that Rs 1,050 crore has been earmarked in the 2024 state budget exclusively for skill development and technical education initiatives. 

"Our objective isn't just to envision dreams but to turn them into reality with clear and actionable steps. This year's substantial allocation for skill development reflects our serious commitment to turning Odisha into a global hub for technical expertise," the Chief Minister added. 

Odisha’s continued emphasis on equipping its youth with cutting-edge skills has positioned the state as a leader in India's growing skill ecosystem. Programs like 'Skilled in Odisha' have helped countless students acquire the expertise needed to compete on a global scale.
