NDRF Gears Up for Action as Odisha Prepares for Possible Heavy Rainfall

As Odisha braces for potential heavy rainfall, the state government has proactively mobilized resources to mitigate the impact on its residents. In a strategic move, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed multiple teams across vulnerable districts, and additional equipment has been prepared to tackle waterlogging issues in key urban areas.

NDRF Gears Up for Action as Odisha Prepares for Possible Heavy Rainfall

NDRF Teams Deployed in Critical Districts

Recognizing the importance of quick action, six teams of the NDRF have been dispatched to four districts: Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh. These districts have been identified as particularly susceptible to heavy rainfall and possible flooding. In addition, two more NDRF teams have been placed on standby to be deployed wherever the situation demands. This preemptive deployment is aimed at ensuring swift relief and rescue operations in case of any emergencies caused by heavy downpours.

De-watering Efforts to Tackle Urban Flooding

Urban areas in Odisha, particularly Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri, have been gearing up for the possibility of waterlogging due to continuous rainfall. In a bid to prevent widespread flooding, the state has taken measures to strengthen its de-watering infrastructure. Thirty additional pumps have been allocated for Bhubaneswar, the state capital, which is prone to water accumulation in low-lying areas. Cuttack and Puri have each received ten additional pumps to bolster their flood management capabilities.

These steps are crucial as urban flooding can severely disrupt daily life and lead to significant damage to infrastructure if not controlled promptly.

Preparedness and Vigilance

The government’s focus on preparedness reflects its commitment to safeguarding its citizens. The deployment of NDRF teams and de-watering pumps is part of a broader strategy to enhance disaster management capabilities and minimize the risk to life and property. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow official updates regarding the weather situation.

The Odisha government’s proactive measures demonstrate its readiness to handle any weather-related challenges in the coming days. As the monsoon intensifies, the coordinated efforts between disaster response teams and local administration will be crucial in minimizing the impact of heavy rainfall on the state.
