Kolkata – Heritage Institute of Technology (HITK) hosted its much-anticipated intra-college hackathon, HackHeritage, a landmark event that saw participation from over 1,000 students across various departments. The 24-hour hackathon, held from September 6th to 7th, culminated in the selection of 600 top students who will advance to the final round.
HackHeritage served as a pre-qualifier for the prestigious Smart India Hackathon (SIH), meticulously designed to mirror SIH's structure and standards. This event provided a unique platform for students to showcase their innovative solutions and compete for a chance to represent HITK at the national level.
A Simulation of Exceollence
Prof. Joydeb Hazra, of the Department of CSBS and SPOC for Smart India Hackathon 2024 at HITK, emphasized the importance of HackHeritage as a preparatory event. "Our aim was to create a simulation of the Smart India Hackathon environment. HackHeritage not only fosters innovation but also helps in identifying and honing the talent necessary for success at SIH. It serves as a critical step in selecting the most capable students to represent our institute," he explained.
Paving the Way for Future Innovators
Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal of HITK, praised the participants for their dedication and hard work. "This event plays a pivotal role in selecting the students who will represent us at the Smart India Hackathon 2024. The solutions being developed address real-time problems facing our country, and the commitment of our students is truly commendable," he noted.
Mr. P.K. Agarwal, CEO of Heritage Group of Institutions, highlighted the transformative impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. "The Smart India Hackathon provides a platform for students to tackle pressing national issues. Events like HackHeritage are instrumental in fostering a culture of innovation and contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat," he stated during the inaugural ceremony.

The event witnessed the presence of several notable figures, including Shri Vikram Swarup, Vice-Chairman of the Heritage Group of Institutions, Shri P. R. Agarwala, Chairman of Heritage Institute of Technology, Shri Sajjan Bhajanka, Secretary of the Heritage Group of Institutions, and Shri Siddharth Swarup, Trustee of the Heritage Group of Institutions.
