Bhubaneswar: The government has launched the ambitious Subhadra Scheme, aimed at uplifting more than 1 crore women across the state. Women aged 21 years and above but under 60 years, who meet the eligibility criteria, will be the primary beneficiaries of this initiative.
Under the Subhadra Scheme, eligible women will receive a financial benefit of ₹5,000 annually on Raksha Bandhan and International Women’s Day (March 8). This means each woman will receive a total of ₹10,000 per year. Over a five-year period, a beneficiary will have received a total of ₹50,000.
To ensure transparency in disbursing the financial aid, the government has implemented the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). This system will transfer the financial assistance directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts, ensuring that the money reaches them without any hassle. Additionally, each beneficiary will receive a Subhadra Debit Card, which they can use for digital transactions.
Encouraging digital payments is one of the key focuses of this scheme. The government plans to recognize and reward 100 beneficiaries from each Gram Panchayat and urban local body who conduct the highest number of digital transactions. These women will be awarded an additional ₹500 as an incentive to promote a cashless economy.
The scheme, however, excludes financially stable women. Women who hold government jobs, pay income tax, or receive any form of government aid that exceeds ₹1,500 per month or ₹18,000 per year are not eligible for the Subhadra Scheme.
Women interested in joining this scheme can apply through various channels such as Anganwadi centers, Block offices, Mo Seva Kendras, and Jana Seva Kendras. A dedicated call center will also be set up to assist with any queries related to the scheme. To oversee the scheme's implementation and ensure that no eligible woman is left out, the Women and Child Development Department will form a special Subhadra Committee.
The government is taking proactive steps to ensure the smooth rollout of this scheme. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed hope that this visionary decision by the State Cabinet will fulfill the promises made to the public and lead to a brighter future for the women of the state.
In conclusion, the Subhadra Scheme is a significant move towards women's empowerment, offering financial assistance and promoting digital literacy. The government’s focus on transparency and inclusivity is expected to bring about positive change, especially for those in need.
