Bhubaneswar: Potato prices continue to rise unchecked in Bhubaneswar, sparking concerns among consumers. Reports suggest that some traders are engaging in black market activities, increasing the price of potatoes before selling them. In response, the Supply Department has taken action to control prices by conducting raids on warehouses early this morning.
A team from the Supply Department raided the No. 1 market in Bhubaneswar, targeting warehouses storing large quantities of potatoes and onions. The authorities are determined to curb the illegal price hikes by monitoring and taking necessary action against those involved in hoarding.
Over the past few days, the state has seen a sharp increase in the price of potatoes. The state government had earlier issued a price chart to regulate the rates, but some traders continued selling potatoes at inflated prices, leading to today's raid.
The team questioned traders about the prices of various essential goods and inspected whether they were adhering to the government's price guidelines. The authorities aim to ensure that the public is not burdened with unjustified price hikes.
The rising prices of essential commodities, particularly potatoes and onions, have put a strain on the common people. Most vegetables are now being sold at over ₹80 per kilogram. The daily increase in potato and onion prices has become a significant concern. Currently, potatoes are being sold at around ₹40 per kilogram, while onions range between ₹45 and ₹50 per kilogram in the retail market.
The authorities are determined to bring these prices under control to ease the financial burden on the public. The crackdown on black market activities is a step toward ensuring fair prices and protecting consumers from exploitation.
