Potato Prices in Odisha: What You Need to Know About the Recent Price Hike

Bhubaneswar, Odisha – If you’ve been to the market lately, you may have noticed that the price of potatoes has gone up. Potatoes, which are a common staple in Indian households, have become more expensive due to a series of events that have affected their supply in Odisha.

Potato Prices in Odisha: What You Need to Know About the Recent Price Hike

What Happened?

Recently, a total of 300 trucks filled with potatoes entered Odisha. These trucks came from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, two states that usually supply a large amount of potatoes to Odisha. Out of these 300 trucks, 270 came from West Bengal and 30 from Uttar Pradesh. These potatoes were delivered to various warehouses across the state, but the journey wasn’t smooth.

Why Did Prices Go Up?

There were some problems at the West Bengal border. The police were not allowing the potato trucks to enter Odisha directly. This forced the trucks to take a longer route through Jharkhand, which increased the cost of transporting the potatoes. Because of these higher transportation costs, the price of potatoes in Odisha started to rise.

Current Prices

Right now, potatoes are being sold for about ₹30 per kilogram in most parts of the state. However, in some areas, the price has gone up to over ₹40 per kilogram. This has caused concern among consumers, as they have to spend more on this essential item.

What’s Being Done?

To help control the prices, the Odisha government has stepped in. Today, a raid was conducted by the Supply Department in the Unit-1 Market of Bhubaneswar. The officials gave strict orders to sell potatoes at the government-approved price. They have asked sellers to price potatoes between ₹32 and ₹35 per kilogram to make sure that people can afford them.

What’s Next?

Businessmen believe that the situation will get better soon. As more trucks reach Odisha and the supply of potatoes increases, the prices are expected to stabilize. Until then, consumers are advised to buy only what they need and avoid panic buying, which can further increase prices.

In the coming days, it is hoped that the supply issues will be resolved and that the cost of potatoes will return to normal.
