PMAY Assistance Increased to ₹1.8 Lakh: Odisha Minister Announces Major Housing Boost

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to bolster housing for the underprivileged, Odisha's Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department Minister, Rabi Narayan Naik, announced that the financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will soon increase to ₹1.8 lakh. This hike from the previous ₹1.2 lakh aims to provide better support for those in need of affordable housing across the state.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Naik emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that every rural household in Odisha has access to decent housing. "A detailed guideline specifying the increased assistance amount will be issued soon. With the inclusion of funds from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), beneficiaries could receive up to ₹2 lakh for constructing their homes," he stated.

Enhanced Support for Toilet Construction

In addition to the PMAY boost, Minister Naik revealed plans to increase the financial aid for constructing toilets. Previously, beneficiaries received ₹12,000 for this purpose, but the new proposal raises this amount to ₹20,000. The Minister highlighted that these measures are part of a broader plan to transform rural homes into model houses, complete with toilets and clean drinking water supply.

Odisha Antyodaya Gruha Yojana

Minister Naik also introduced the Odisha Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, a new initiative aimed at helping people whose homes have been damaged by natural disasters, fires, or elephant attacks. The scheme will provide financial support to rebuild and repair homes, ensuring that affected families can return to safe and secure living conditions.

Focus on Tribal Development

The government has also prepared a comprehensive roadmap for the development of 500 tribal villages in Odisha. Minister Naik pointed out that while Odisha is home to 64 tribal communities, previous governments have neglected their welfare. The new plan aims to safeguard tribal traditions, improve road connectivity, and provide essential amenities like drinking water. “We are dedicated to bringing tribal youth into the mainstream by providing essential training and support,” the Minister emphasized.

Minister Naik's announcements mark a significant step forward in improving the living conditions for Odisha's rural and tribal populations, reflecting the government's dedication to inclusive development and social welfare. The implementation of these initiatives is expected to have a profound impact on the lives of thousands of beneficiaries across the state.
