Gania, Odisha – (Reported by Manas Ranjan Das): The Panchayat Samiti of Gania held an important meeting recently at the Block Sabha House, where local representatives gathered to discuss pressing issues impacting the community. The meeting, chaired by Block President Jhuna Jena, brought together various government officials and local leaders, including MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera, representatives from the Member of Parliament’s office, and members of the Zilla Parishad.
The main agenda of the meeting was to address the challenges faced by the Gania region over the past eight months, a period during which no meetings were held due to the elections. As a result, there was much to catch up on, and local leaders were eager to bring attention to the needs of their respective areas.
One of the significant concerns raised was the delay in completing the minutes from the previous meeting. Gania’s Sarpanch, a key village leader, emphasized the importance of discussing these minutes before confirming them. This discussion is essential because it ensures that all decisions made in the past are accurately recorded and can be acted upon.
Deputy Chairperson Raj Kishore Sahu expressed frustration over the lack of communication about the grants coming into the region. According to him, public representatives were not adequately informed, leading to confusion and delays in utilizing these funds for the community’s benefit.
Education was another critical topic at the meeting. In a previous session, Block President Jena had requested the transfer of the headmaster of Jagannath Prasad School due to concerns about performance. However, it was noted that this transfer had not yet taken place. The Block Education Officer assured the assembly that the headmaster had promised the District Education Officer to improve their work.
Additionally, the condition of the high-mast lights in Gania was a topic of concern. Many of these lights, which are meant to illuminate public areas at night, were found to be non-functional. This situation poses a safety risk to the community, especially during the evening hours. Discussions were held on how to address this issue promptly.
The meeting also addressed a pressing problem related to the upcoming flood season. The Sarpanch of Rasanga highlighted that several electric poles, particularly those between Rasanga and Dankari Sahi, often get submerged in water during floods. He requested that these poles be relocated to higher ground to avoid potential hazards.
Healthcare services in Gania also came under scrutiny. Although the Gania Medical Center is supposed to have four specialist doctors, none have been appointed since 2014. The lack of doctors has severely affected healthcare delivery in the area. Health Officer Madhusudan Das, who attended the meeting, urged the authorities to repair the medical office building, which is in poor condition. Additionally, it was revealed that out of 22 sanctioned doctor posts, only five are currently filled, placing immense pressure on the available healthcare staff.
The meeting also touched upon the electricity issues plaguing Gania. Due to frequent power outages, the meeting itself was held in sweltering conditions, leading to widespread frustration among the attendees. Local representatives voiced their concerns and called for urgent action to resolve the power supply problems.
Lastly, the incomplete state of the Kalyan Mandap, a community hall in Gania, was brought up. The Sarpanch expressed the need for its swift completion, as it plays a vital role in hosting community events and gatherings.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to work together and address these issues promptly. The leaders present emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in overcoming the challenges faced by the Gania community.
As the region moves forward, the people of Gania hope that these discussions will translate into meaningful actions that will improve their quality of life and ensure that essential services are delivered effectively.
