Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government took a significant step on Wednesday towards modernizing its agriculture sector with the launch of the e-Chasa app and portal. This new initiative introduces a digital survey policy, aimed at enhancing the accuracy of crop data across the state. Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who also serves as the Agriculture Department head, unveiled the app and portal at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar.
The e-Chasa initiative is expected to revolutionize the way crop surveys are conducted in Odisha. By utilizing digital technology, this programme will ensure precise data collection even in the state's remote and hilly regions. This data will help in forming effective policies to support farmers and improve the agriculture sector.
Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo proudly stated that Odisha is the first state in India to implement such a comprehensive digital survey policy in agriculture. This initiative is set to benefit around 48 lakh farmers across the state. With this new platform, farmers can access important crop-related information and data anytime, regardless of the weather conditions.
The digital survey programme was first tested last year in Bhadrak, Deogarh, Nuapada, and Nayagarh districts, where it covered approximately 30 lakh plots of agricultural land. Following the successful pilot, the state has now expanded the initiative to cover the entire state. The Agriculture Department plans to survey about 48 lakh hectares of land, with the help of a robust workforce that includes 28,000 surveyors, 8,000 supervisors, and 1,400 inspectors.
Arabinda Kumar Padhee, the Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department, expressed confidence in the programme's ability to streamline the process of data collection. He emphasized that accurate data is crucial for creating policies that will truly benefit farmers. Furthermore, the app offers a Farmers Helpline (155333), allowing farmers to report issues and seek guidance whenever needed.
With the launch of the e-Chasa app and portal, Odisha is setting a new benchmark in digital transformation within the agriculture sector. This initiative not only aims to empower farmers with better access to information but also strengthens the state's commitment to modernizing its agricultural practices.
