Bhubaneswar: (Reported by Akhya Kumar Singh): A significant step towards strengthening journalism and ensuring the safety of journalists was taken in Bhubaneswar. Focus Plus and Anchalik Khabar's Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Sudhansu Shekhar Raut, who is also the President of the All Odisha Reporters Association, presided over a grand state executive meeting at Hotel HHI, Kharavela Nagar. The gathering brought together over 1,500 journalists from across Odisha, who registered with the new association and pledged to protect their rights and interests.
The event's chief guest, Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena from Ganjam district, praised the unity of the journalists and expressed his hope for the association's success in promoting press freedom and security. Other esteemed guests included Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahu, Khordha MLA Prashant Jagadev, former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi, senior youth leader Pulin Puhan, and several prominent media figures such as Sanjay Jena, Editor-in-Chief of Argus TV, Amit Kumar Mallik, publisher of Nandighosh TV and Sakal Khabor, and BBC Chief Sanjeev Sahu. They all shared their insights on the importance of protecting journalists while also maintaining the highest standards of news reporting.
The program began with a floral tribute to Lord Jagannath, followed by the ceremonial lighting of lamps. An enchanting Odissi dance performance added a cultural touch to the event. The highlight of the day was the unveiling of the logo for the All Odisha Reporters Association by the distinguished guests, who then delivered their speeches.
In his address, Dr. Sudhansu Shekhar Raut emphasized the need for a strong and unified journalism community in Odisha. He stressed that the safety and security of reporters are paramount in the current scenario, where journalists often face threats and challenges while doing their duty. He also encouraged all journalists present to stay committed to their profession and fight for their rights through collective action.
The event also honored several distinguished personalities for their contributions to society and their dedication to public service. The second session of the meeting focused on forming district-level journalist associations across Odisha. The attendees were advised to continue their efforts in safeguarding their interests and fighting for justice at both the district and state levels.
The event was successfully managed by the association's General Secretary Sangram Mahanti, Manager Bimal Kumar Raul, and Executive Chairpersons Buba Das and Damburu Dhar Pradhan. The program's anchoring was handled gracefully by Tapaswi.
