The victory over Spain in the bronze medal match has been hailed as a remarkable moment in Indian sports, one that will inspire future generations.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh Reflects on the Victory 

After the match, team captain Harmanpreet Singh shared his thoughts on this monumental win. He acknowledged the importance of the achievement, saying, "This is a very big thing... We won back-to-back bronze, and we tried for gold, but this is the journey, and we will learn from this in the future." Harmanpreet emphasized the significance of the learning experience, indicating that the team's journey doesn’t end here. He also praised veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, describing him as a "fantastic player," which shows the deep respect and camaraderie within the team. 

Odisha’s Role in Supporting Indian Hockey 

Odisha has played a crucial role in the resurgence of Indian hockey in recent years, and the state’s commitment to the sport was evident once again. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and former Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, interacted with the Indian Hockey Team following their victory. Patnaik congratulated the team for their stellar performance and expressed his pride in the athletes who represented the country on such a grand stage. 

The current Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, also extended his congratulations to the team. He highlighted the significance of the victory by saying, "Indian Hockey team defeated Spain and won the bronze medal, the upcoming generation will remember this victory." CM Majhi went on to announce several rewards for the team members and staff. Each player will receive Rs 15 lakhs, while the support staff will be awarded Rs 10 lakhs. In recognition of Amit Rohidas's exceptional performance, he will be given a special reward of Rs 4 crore. 

A New Chapter for PR Sreejesh 

One of the most emotional moments following the match was the announcement regarding PR Sreejesh, the team’s legendary goalkeeper. Sreejesh, who played his last match in the bronze medal game, received high praise for his contributions to Indian hockey over the years. Bhola Nath Singh, the Secretary General of Hockey India, announced that Sreejesh would now take on a new role as the head coach of the Junior India Hockey Team. 

"This marks a fresh start for Sreejesh, and I’m excited to announce that he will take on the role of head coach for the Junior India Hockey team... We’ll initiate discussions with both SAI and the Government of India," stated Singh. This move is seen as a way to ensure that Sreejesh's experience and expertise continue to benefit Indian hockey, particularly in grooming the next generation of players.
