Kolkata: In a proud moment for Heritage Institute of Technology, a team of four students secured the runner-up position in the prestigious Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon, organized by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The event took place to celebrate India's remarkable success with the Chandrayaan 3 mission, marking the first time this national-level hackathon was conducted.
On the occasion of National Space Day, the Honourable President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, felicitated the winners during a grand ceremony at Bharat Mandapam. The Heritage Institute team, comprising Sambit Mallick (4th Year, ECE), Snigdha Paul (4th Year, ECE), Chitradeep Saha (4th Year, ECE), and Aishik Paul (3rd Year, ECE), impressed the judges with their outstanding performance. Their task involved analyzing and detecting OHD images from Chandrayaan 3 using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques.
The winners of the hackathon were from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, while the second runners-up position was secured by the students' team from IIT Roorkee. The event witnessed participation from engineering students across the country, with 3062 registrations from various institutions, including IITs and NITs.
The hackathon, which spanned 30 hours, was a first-of-its-kind initiative by ISRO, in collaboration with Hack2Skill. The objective was to celebrate India's achievements in space exploration, with a focus on using technology to solve real-world problems related to space missions.
The Heritage Institute team’s success is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and innovative approach to tackling complex challenges. Their achievement also highlights the growing importance of AI and ML in space exploration and research.
This accomplishment not only brings pride to Heritage Institute of Technology but also inspires future generations of engineers to contribute to India’s space missions.
