Heavy Rains to Lash Odisha: What You Need to Know

Bhubaneswar, August 5 — Odisha is bracing for a significant weather shift as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall over the next three days. According to IMD’s evening bulletin, many districts across the state will experience heavy rain, ranging between 7 to 11 cm, coupled with thunderstorms and lightning.

 The districts expected to see the most rain include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput. On Wednesday and Thursday, some areas might even witness very heavy rainfall. 

On Monday, Bhubaneswar, the state capital, recorded 43.9 mm of rain, causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Cuttack experienced 29.4 mm of rain, while Talcher saw 21 mm, Nayagarh town 19 mm, and Dhenkanal 11.2 mm. 

Since the beginning of the monsoon The ongoing weather conditions highlight the need for residents to stay vigilant. The heavy rains could lead to disruptions in daily life, including potential roadblocks and increased risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.
