Khordha: The vibrant Gahma Mahotsav was recently celebrated with great enthusiasm in Champailo, a village in the Pichukuli Panchayat of Bolagarh Block, known for its rich history in the freedom struggle. Organized by the Megh Mahlar Cultural Foundation and supported by the Odisha Government's Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department, the event drew significant attention from the local community.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Manoj Kumar Gumansingh, who serves as the Chairperson of the Foundation. The event was officially inaugurated by the local MLA, Pradeep Kumar Sahu, who emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and protecting the environment through activities like tree plantation.
Several prominent guests graced the occasion, including Pavitra Mohan Majhi, a director at the Khurda Cooperative Bank, committee member Sanjay Kumar Gumansingh, former committee member and justice Pramod Kumar Pratapsingh, cultural researcher Bibhuti Bhushan Dalai, educationist Geetanjali Mahapatra, teacher Prakash Chandra Rautaray, and social worker Prabhat Kumar Behera. Their presence highlighted the significance of the festival in promoting local culture and traditions.
The event featured a variety of cultural performances that captivated the audience. Artists from the Ma Patakhanda Natya Kala Sansad, Jagannath Prasad, Ganjam, performed the traditional Bharata Leela, while the Jhilmili Ghoda Nach group from Pipili Manglapur presented mesmerizing folk dances. The festival also saw a beautiful Sambalpuri dance performance by young artist Arpita Baliyarsingh, adding to the diversity of cultural expressions on display.
In a special ceremony, senior Dandanach artist Ratnakar Maharana and journalist Deepak Kumar Pahadsingh were honored with citations by the chief guest, recognizing their contributions to the community.
The festival was well-coordinated by Om Prakash Mahadev, while the founding secretary, Purnachandra Behera, welcomed the gathering with an inspiring speech. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the festival's secretary, Aarti Behera, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees for making the event a success.
Gahma Mahotsav in Champailo stands as a testament to the enduring cultural spirit of the region, bringing together tradition, art, and community in a celebration of heritage.
