BHUBANESWAR: As the much-anticipated visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Odisha on September 17 approaches, the BJP’s core committee has sprung into action, laying out plans to make the event a grand success. The visit is centered around the launch of the Subhadra Yojana, a flagship scheme expected to make waves across the state and beyond.
Chaired by state BJP president Manmohan Samal, the core committee meeting held in Bhubaneswar focused on two critical matters: the Prime Minister's visit and the BJP's ongoing membership drive. The leadership is keen on ensuring the event draws both national and international attention.
The Subhadra Yojana, a scheme with a staggering budgetary allocation of over ₹55,000 crore, aims to uplift women across the state. The BJP plans to broadcast the launch live in all districts to maximize its outreach. Sources within the party have indicated that every detail is being meticulously planned to ensure that the program leaves a lasting impact.
However, the BJP-led state government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is under scrutiny. The opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has criticized the government for allegedly depriving more than one crore women of the scheme’s benefits and failing to deliver the promised ₹50,000 cash vouchers within two years, as stated in the BJP’s election manifesto. Despite this, the government remains committed to implementing the scheme over the next five years, with a total budget of ₹55,825 crore allocated for its rollout.
The BJP also took the opportunity to strategize for its membership drive, which is set to kick off in the first week of September. The party has set an ambitious goal of enrolling one crore members before the organizational elections. Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar expressed the party’s dedication to this target, emphasizing that future political programs will focus on expanding the BJP’s reach across the state.
Prominent leaders, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda, MPs Pratap Sarangi and Sambit Patra, and Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, attended the meeting. National BJP general secretary Sunil Bansal and state co-incharge Lata Usendi were also present to discuss strategies for the upcoming events. However, Union Minister Jual Oram was unable to attend due to health reasons.
As the date of PM Modi’s visit nears, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the launch of the Subhadra Yojana is a milestone event that boosts the party's standing in the state and fortifies its political agenda.
