State Cabinet Announces Major Initiatives in Second Meeting

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move, Honourable ChiefMinister Mr. Mohan Charan Majhi chaired the second meeting of the state cabinet today, unveiling five crucial decisions aimed at the holistic development of agriculture, worker welfare, Odia cultural preservation, and primary education enhancement.

Support for Farmers Provision of financial assistance to all eligible farmer families under the PM-Kisan scheme, following central government guidelines.

  1. Increase in Minimum Wage Rates: In a bid to support workers, the state has decided to increase the minimum daily wages for different categories of workers. Unskilled workers will now receive ₹450, up from ₹352. Semi-skilled workers will see their wages rise to ₹500 from ₹392. Skilled workers’ wages will increase to ₹550 from ₹442, and highly skilled workers will now earn ₹600, up from ₹502.
  2. Promotion of Odia Identity: The state government is focusing on the promotion of Odia cultural identity by establishing a ₹200 crore corpus fund. This fund will be used for various initiatives, including the construction of the Odia Asmita Bhavan, establishment of the Odia Translation Academy, creation of a world-class palm leaf manuscript museum, and improvement of the Paika Rebellion Memorial. Additionally, efforts will be made to gain international recognition for the Bali Jatra festival, encourage artists, provide financial incentives for Odissi dance and music training, establish Odia chairs in national and international universities, set up district-level e-libraries, and organize cultural groups.
  3. Teacher Recruitment: The Odisha School Education Programme Authority has been given the green light to publish the selection list of 18,788 candidates. The School and Mass Education Department has been instructed to expedite the recruitment process based on this list.
  4. Irrigation Projects: The state has decided to operationalize non-functional irrigation projects and strengthen existing ones. This will see 2,065 non-functional projects become operational, irrigating 59,292 hectares of agricultural land. Additionally, 10,152 old functional projects will be strengthened to enhance the irrigation capacity of 226,886 hectares of partially irrigated land. The state government plans to invest ₹1,084.38 crores from its own resources over the next five years to achieve this.
  5. Support for Farmers: The state will follow the central government’s guidelines to provide financial assistance to all eligible farmer families under the PM-Kisan scheme, ensuring that no farmer is left behind.
